Kent State pulls away to beat EMU

Both Eastern Michigan and Kent State came into this game with similar records, and similar spot's in the conference. A win for EMU would have helped the Eagles remain in 2nd, but this loss put's EMU 2 games back from 1st place in the MAC West. With the Toledo Rockets winning it put them in 2nd only down 1 game to Western Michigan.

The Eagles really needed to do 1 thing, and that's score! It may sound obvious but EMU has had trouble on offense and scoring, while the defense has kept the Eagles in a lot of the close games. EMU went into halftime only down 6 and hoping to come out firing in the 2nd half. But it was the exact opposite, Kent State started the 2nd half on a 10-0 run before EMU got a basket.

It was very hard for the Eagles to get back into the game after that, as both team were just going back and forth at each other. Late in the game, the Eagles defense made some nice stops holding the Golden Flashes to a 5 second call, and a 10 second backcourt violation. But it was a little too late to come back in this one, with a final score of 77-61.

Believe it or not there were a few thing EMU did improve on in this game. The Eagles had 12 turnovers all game, which is much better than the average 19 turnovers. EMU also had 12 offensive rebounds, 5 of them coming from Glenn Bryant.

Eastern Michigan's shooting was not great in this game, shooting 36.5% overall and only 16% from 3. EMU shot 77.8% from the free throw line, Thompson and Harper both going 4 for 4 from the line.

Thompson led the team in scoring with 17 points, followed by Bryant with 9, Harper and Balkema with 8.

Eastern Michigan is going to have to learn how to start and close games. A lot of the game's EMU has lost have come down to the last seconds or minutes. In this game EMU had a slow start to the second half, and had trouble shooting. The Eagles can't rely on making a late comeback every game, they need to have a game plan on what to do and how to fix these problems so they don't happen.

EMU will go to 10-11 overall, and 3-4 in the conference. Buffalo is next for EMU, and then Toledo after that.
