Eagles Stomp Miami, Move on to play WMU

     VS.

A 2nd half highlight reel for Eastern Michigan, give the Eagles a big win in the MAC Tournament. A solid 58-47 win over Miami OH. Eastern Michigan will move on and play rival Western Michigan tomorrow at 9PM EST. WMU hasn't played a game yet in the MAC tourney.

EMU started the game alright, both teams going at each other, and Miami tried tieing it before half, but a 3 pointer for EMU gave the Eagles a 3 point lead going into halftime which gave EMU momentum going into the 2nd half.

A big part of this game was forcing Miami to turn the ball over. EMU's defense was strong in this game and was able to get' those turnovers. Miami had 20 turnovers in this game. EMU had 16 turnovers all game.

In the 2nd half, it was a highlight reel for Eastern Michigan, dunk after dunk EMU made it look easy. Glenn Bryant had the dunk of the night for EMU, he goes over a Miami player and slams it home with a 1 handed jam.

Riley came up big for Eastern Michigan once again, he finished with 10 points, 9 rebounds, and 3 huge blocks along with 4 steals. These stats are remarkable when you compare them to earlier in the season. Riley also had a big impact from the free throw line, he went 4 for 6 from the line in this game.

A huge step for Eastern Michigan was, 4 players scored in double digits. Thompson finished with 14 points, 6 of those points were because of 3 pointers. Harrison had 11 points, not far behind was Riley and Bryant both with 10, and JR Sims with 8.

As a team the Eagles out-rebounded Miami 27-22, Riley and Harrison leading the team in rebounds. EMU shared the ball well, they had 13 assists. Also had 9 steals, and 4 blocks. EMU shot 43% from the field, 36% from behind the arc, and 69% from the free throw line.

Eastern Michigan moves on to play rival Western Michigan for a chance to move on and play the 2 seed Ohio Bobcats. EMU will play WMU at 9PM, you can watch the game on ESPN3.com or listen on WEMU.

Eagles Get 1 Point win, Enough to go to Cleveland

     VS.

EMU started the MAC tournament against Northern Illinois. The first round game EMU got to host, and the winner would go to Cleveland to play the rest of the tournament. EMU was able to get a close 1 point win over Northern Illinois.

Once again it wasn't a very high scoring game for the Eagles, but if you can get the win it doesn't matter the score. A 45-44 win was just enough to move on to the second round. EMU will play Miami in the next round as they upset the 6 seed Bowling Green.

A big positive coming out of this game was EMU was only in single digits for turnovers. Only 9 turnovers this game which is huge for EMU going into Cleveland. It's good that EMU will go to the Tournament with some momentum.

Da'Shonte Riley was a hug part in this game for Eastern Michigan. Riley played most of the game, and ended up with 13 points, going 5/5 from the field and 3/7 from the free throw line. He was huge under the basket having 4 blocks, and getting 11 of the EMU 29 rebounds.

Bryant also had a good game with 10 points, not far behind was Thompson with 8 points. Sims had 7 and Ross had 5. Bryant also helped out under the hoop with 8 rebounds in this game.

As a team EMU shot the ball 44% from the field, and 36% from behind the arc. Eagles had 7 blocks and 2 steals, and only 9 turnovers.

Now Eastern Michigan will take the trip to Cleveland Ohio to play the 11 seeded Miami Redhawks. The game is March 13th at 9PM. The winner will move on to play Western Michigan.

Toledo 2nd Half Rally lifts Rockets to Win over EMU

      VS.

Quite a bit at stake for Eastern Michigan coming into this game. A win would influence the seed the Eagles would get in the MAC tournament, a loss would give EMU a 6 seed. EMU started the game hot but couldn't finish it in the 2nd half falling 67-78 Toledo.

Right out of the gat Eastern Michigan was able to take a lead and looked like solid team to start the game. EMU was shooting a high percentage, and doing very well from the free throw line. Eastern Michigan got a lead of 10 points at one point in the first half.

EMU would have these short spurts where they would go on runs. EMU went on a 7-0 run at a point in this game. Eagles went into halftime with the lead, and was shooting just over 50% from the field.

The second half was a much different story. EMU didn't come out with much intensity, while Toledo started to run away, after Buckley was lighting it up from 3 point range for the Rockets. Toledo was able to take a demanding lead, and EMU wasn't able to get back into it.

Derek Thompson had a season high 25 points on his senior night. Thompson had 5 three pointers, and 3 of EMU's rebounds. JR Sims also had a decent game from behind the arc with 3, 3 pointers. Sims ended up with 13 points in his start today. Glenn Bryant had 15 points, 8 rebounds, and a steal and a block. Harrison had 7 points, 4 rebounds and 2 steals.

Neither team went very far into the bench for this game, Riley, Bryant, Harper, and Ross were the only ones to get into the game today for EMU off the bench. Toledo had 3 players come off the bench with a combined total of 4 points. 19 points came off the bench for EMU, Bryant had 15 of those.

As a team EMU shot 41% overall, and 41% from 3 point range. EMU went 9 for 9 from the free throw line early in the game but end up going 13 for 17 from the line (76%). EMU had 27 rebounds, 10 of them were offensive. But Toledo outrebound the Eagles with 29 rebounds. EMU had 10 steals, and had 14 turnovers in this game.

Eastern Michigan will finish the regular season with a 14-17 record, and 7-9 in the MAC. The Eagles are looking forward to the MAC tournament where they will likely get a 6 seed. Toledo is ineligible for postseason play, so 5 teams will get a first round bye. EMU needed a win today to have a chance at a bye game.

Eagles Comeback Not Enough to Beat CMU

      VS.

A slow start for Eastern Michigan ends in a big comeback, but the Eagles still fall short by 2, to Central Michigan. An EMU win would have given the Eagles the Michigan MAC trophy, but CMU pulls out the win 61-59. Eastern will go to 7-8 in the MAC, and 14-16 overall.

Eastern was down by as much as 15 in this game and it wasn't looking good. At halftime CMU led 33-24. EMU came into the 2nd half with a little more intensity and managed to make a big comeback and took the lead at one point in the game.

Eastern had problems keeping a lead as both team went back and forth at each other late in the game. EMU had about 19 seconds to score but were unable to after turning the ball over out of bounds, which ended the game.

Late in the season EMU has done a decent job at not turning the ball over as much. EMU average about 19 turnovers a game. In this game EMU had only 11, and the past few games were similar. The Eagles have staying in a lot of games thanks to not turning it over as much. EMU beat WMU in overtime, and almost came out with a win over CMU.

Thompson led the Eagles with 14 points, and 4 three pointers. Not to far behind was Bryant with 13, and Harrison with 12. Harris also had a impressive game with 9 points. Bryant had 7 rebounds, Harrison and Riley both had 5 rebounds.

As a team EMU out rebounded CMU 31-24. EMU shot 46% overall, and 37% from 3 point range. Eastern Michigan had 6 three pointers all were scored by Bryant and Harrison. The Eagles really struggled from the free throw line going 3 for 7 from the line.

EMU will head back home to end the season. They will play Toledo on saturday. After that we go to the MAC tournament where hopefully the Eagles can have a strong showing.

Eagles Beat WMU in Overtime

    VS.

A nail biting finish at the Convocation Center. Eagles pull out a 1 point win over in state rival Western Michigan. EMU had a chance to win the game in regulation, they had 9 seconds to score but were unable to do so, which sent the game to Overtime. Eastern won in overtime 50-49. Eastern Michigan goes to 14-15 overall, and 7-7 in the MAC.

Stating the game Eastern Michigan was looking good, they were keeping a steady lead, and were able to into halftime with a 23-18 lead. You could tell Eastern Michigan really wanted this win, the Eagles played hard all game long, and didn't let the game slip away.

The second half started out all WMU. They got offensive rebounds and put-back shots. WMU opened up a 5 point lead. The Eagles got back into the game quickly with about 7 minutes to go in the game.

Nobody expected what would happen next. WMU's David Brown hit's a 3, to put Western up by 3, with about 3 minutes to go in the game. But the excitement is just about to begin. Derek Thompson then hit's a deep 3, while being heavily guarded. The 3 tied the game at 42. Later in the game EMU had the ball with 9 seconds left, and tried to win it by rushing into the lane, but they weren't able to get the layup.

Headed to overtime EMU shot the ball well. Thompson, Harrison and Bryant all hit some key jump shots. But WMU refused to go away. With a 48-47 lead, JR Sims was able to get 2 free throws, to give EMU a 3 point lead. The Broncos came down got a 2 pointer, but it wouldn't be enough as they fouled EMU and didn't have time to get a good shot off.

Glenn Bryant lead the team with 15 points, he also had 2 blocks, 2 steals, and 3 rebounds. Harrison who started today had 13 points, 6 rebounds and a block. Thompson had 9 points, and 1 of the 2, 3 pointers EMU had in this game.

Riley came off the bench in this game and came up with some key blocks to keep WMU from scoring. Bryant also had a couple of key blocks. As a team EMU shot 39% overall, and 18% from 3. The Eagles were just 2/11 from behind the arc. Free throws were pretty big late in the game, EMU went 6/9 from the line.

Eastern Michigan did a nice job limiting their turnovers to only 9 in this game. There were a few sloppy plays by the eagles but they were able to make up for them. EMU had 10 steals, and 6 blocks as a team. EMU did a amazing job defensively in this game.

A win is a win, no matter by how much. This was a huge win for the team now going into play Central Michigan with a 2 game win streak. The MAC tournament is just around the corner and EMU wants to finish strong.
